Since a child, Dirk has been surrounded by music. His father, a world-renowned music Enthusiast and pianist gave Dirk a glimpse of the beauty of music at a very young age. Since then, Dirk has been involved with various forms of music from classical guitar to piano. In 1995 Dirk picked up his first piece of gear, a Yamaha CS2x and his collection has been growing ever since. Electronic music has been a big part of Dirk’s life, as well as many other forms of music ranging from Pink Floyd to John Digweed, Paul Van Dyk & Noel Sanger to classical influences such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Gershwin, and Chopin.
In 1997 Dirk met up with future music and label partner Evan Marcus, and started collaborating together. Both had such similar tastes, it was like working with a pair of kids in a candy store. Throughout 97-99 Dirk & Evan produced under many aliases, had their music scattered throughout the globe, but finally took the music to the next level in 2000. Dirk’s passion for music grew during this time greatly, and from the 1000’s of hours spent in dark studios, his love and passion for music had finally paid off.
Dirk & Evan began the conquest of enmpiring Hunya Munya Records back in 2002. Like so many others, the co-producers of 6 years, wanted to create their own trademark foundation on which to release quality music. The time span has developed into not featuring an immense quantity of tracks - but those only of sheer quality - those that "blow you away" creating an everlasting impact with the ear that caters for such a sound. With electronic music becoming a huge part of their lives, they wanted to put something back into the industry that had shepherd' them to this stage of knowledge and understanding. Support has been increasing internationally, which has help raise the profile from back-street to forefront - although the label is in teething stages - the evolution awaits.
In 2004 Dirks track “Twilight” hit a chord with the progressive crowd. Limited cdrs were sent out and passed on to a select few djs. During that time Noel Sanger stepped in and put his magical touch on the remix duties. Steve Gerrard & Jonathan Lisle were the first to support the song. Twilight is soon to be released on 12” in record stores. (Fall 2004). Dirks talent in music will never be forgotten. His music was deep, beautiful, dark and unique that took you on a wonderful journey. Dirk Bajema was a legend, and he will be loved and missed dearly.
